No Pinoys hurt in Paris knife attack —DFA
The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Monday said no Filipino was hurt in Saturday's knife attack in Paris, France, that was claimed by the Islamic State terrorist group.
Reports said one person was killed while four others were injured when a knife-wielding man randomly attacked people along Rue Saint Agustin and Rue Monsigny, a popular tourist destination in Paris.
"Ambassador [Theresa] Lazaro said the Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attack but has not provided evidence to support its claim," the DFA said.
According to a Reuters report, the unnamed attacker shouted "Allahu akbar" (God is greatest) when he perpetrated the attack.
Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack via its Amaq news agency, but provided no proof.
France is part of a US-led coalition fighting Islamic State in Syria and Iraq and has thousands of soldiers in West Africa, where al Qaeda-linked militants are active.
French authorities have not yet openly categorized the incident as a terror attack but a terror investigation has been launched, said Lazaro. —KBK, GMA News
