Pinoys in Surabaya told to be vigilant amid suicide bombings
The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Tuesday said no Filipinos were hurt in the series of suicide bombings that took place in Surabaya, Indonesia's second largest city.
"The Department has not received any information from the Embassy that would indicate any Filipino casualties in the bombings," the DFA said in a statement.
"The Department has advised the more than 250 Filipinos residing in Surabaya to remain vigilant and to limit their movement until the situation normalizes."
Both the Philippine Embassy in Indonesia and the DFA are monitoring the situation.
The suicide bombings took place outside a police building and three Christian churches in Surabaya.
Reports said a family of six carried out the attacks on the churches while another family of five, including an eight-year-old child, carried bombs to their death at a checkpoint outside the police station.
The DFA said Filipinos in need of immediate assistance may contact the embassy at +62.878.85373273. —Rie Takumi/KBK, GMA News
