MAY 24, 2018 – President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday confirmed that CPP Founder Jose Maria Sison has agreed to return to Philippines for the resumption of the peace talks.
“I have invited Sison to come home. He has agreed. We gave him a window of two months, very small.  Make or break tayo dito,” Duterte said in a speech at the inauguration of Davao River Bridge in Davao City.
He reiterated that he will personally escort Sison to the airport if nothing fruitful has come up within the two-month deadline that he had given.
“I will allow him to go out. I will not arrest him because word of honor ‘yan,” Duterte said.
“But sabihin ko talaga sa kanya, p********, huwag ka nang bumalik dito, papatayin kita. Do not ever return to this country, I will kill you. You have killed so much of my soldiers and policemen,” he added.
Earlier this month, Duterte said he is willing to pay for the travel expenses of Sison from the Netherlands and provide food for all the leaders of the National Democratic Front who will be participating in the peace talks.
“I’m willing to fund the return of Sison. Silang lahat na mga lider ng NDF, ako ang magpapakain. Tapos ‘yung mga rebelde, magkampo lang kayo then do not go out of that camp with arms. During maybe for 60 days, puwede kayo mamasyal kung saan. There will be a ceasefire and we will honor it,” Duterte said last May 2.
Last year, Duterte ordered the termination of peace talks with the communists after a series of attacks by the NPA against government troops and civilians. Duterte also branded the members of CPP-NPA-NDF as “terrorists.”
