The Manila Police District (MPD) on Monday deployed its personnel to areas where events connected to the country's Independence Day celebration on Tuesday will be held, according to Carlo Mateo's report on Dobol B sa News TV.
Citing MPD director Chief Superintendent Rolando Anduyan, Mateo said the policemen were deployed to Rizal Park, venue of the government's Independence Day program, with more to be deployed to Liwasang Bonifacio on Tuesday.
Militant groups are expected to troop to Liwasang Bonifacio on Tuesday to protest the government's alleged inaction toward China's militarization of West Philippine Sea, the extrajudicial killings and human rights violations being linked to the Duterte administration's war on drugs, and the effects of TRAIN law, among others.
Personnel from the National Capital Region Police Office's Civil Disturbance Management Unit have been tapped to help maintain security during the protest action, which will start at 4 p.m.
The report did not mention how many policemen were deployed.
Anduyan said they have not monitored any untoward threat to the country's celebration of 120th Independence Day. —KBK, GMA News
