Another Filipino drowns in New Zealand in less than a week

Another Filipino drowned in New
Zealand on Wednesday night, the second such incident involving a Filipino in
less than a week.
Foreign Affairs Assistant Secretary
Elmer Cato said the 20-year old was swimming with friends in the Whanganui
River when he went under water.
“Nakakalungkot ito kasi this is the
second case of a Filipino loosing his life in this manner," Cato told GMA
News.
Just last week on Friday, Filipino
student Kent Espinosa drowned at the Whangarei Falls.
In October, another Filipino drown truing
to save his nieces.
Ambassador to New Zealand Jesus Gary
Domingo said the embassy would hold townhall meetings to promote better water
safety awareness among members of the Filipino community.
"Gusto ng ating embahada duon ay
mag conduct sila ng engagement with the Filipino community para turuan sila on
water safety, measures and all," Cato said.
The Department of Foreign Affairs has
extended its condolences to the latest Filipino victim of drowning in New
