MANILA — Filipinos in the midwest and northeast regions in the United States were urged to take precaution against a winter storm, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Sunday.
In a statement, the DFA said it is closely monitoring the situation in the US where a series of storms moving across the country is expected to bring significant snow and ice to the north, and heavy rains and severe weather in the south.
The Philippine Consulate General in New York has told the Filipino community to "take precaution, avoid unnecessary travel and monitor weather developments in their respective areas, as well as ensure the sufficient supply of basic items," the DFA said.
The winter storm is expected to affect portions of New Jersey, southern Connecticut and southeast New York, according to the DFA.
