Emirati gets one-year jail term for abducting Pinay

A United Arab Emirates (UAE) court sentenced an Emirati to one year in jail on Sunday for abducting a 40-year-old Filipina but acquitted him of charges that he tried to rape her. According to a report of the news site Gulf News, the Dubai Court of First Instance cited the lack of corroborating evidence in dismissing the attempted rape charges. The defendant was also fined Dh1,000 (P11,435) for consuming liquor. The judgment remains subject to appeal within 15 days, the report said. The prosecutors claimed that the Emirati abducted the Filipina and locked her in his flat but the Filipina resisted and sneaked out the door when the defendant opened it to let a friend in. Court records also showed that the defendant pushed the Filipina out of the elevator of an apartment building and dragged her to his flat. At the time, the defendant reportedly already consumed five glasses of liquor. The Filipino claimed that the Emirati tried to rape her and threatened to kill her. The defendant, however, denied the charges. - VVP, GMA News
