PHL Embassy website adds passport release info page

Saudi Arabia-based Filipinos applying for a passport can now have an easier time checking if their passports are ready for release, with a new feature on the Philippine embassy in Riyadh's website.

Launched recently, the new feature replaced the old periodic lists posted on the website, which applicants had to manually pore through.

"The Embassy has been working on this database which was launched as part of its existing website to further improve its services and make it easier for those waiting for the release of their new passports," the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said.

Meanwhile, the embassy reiterated its earlier advisory that passports unclaimed for six months or more from the date of issuance will be cancelled, in compliance with Department Order No. 37-03.

It said Filipinos who have not claimed their passports issued in the past six months or more may call 01-482-3818 or send an email to consular@philembassy-riyadh.org.

Also, it said those who need to renew their passports should obtain an appointment from the online system on the websitewww.philembassy-riyadh.org.

The online system requires a valid email address to send the confirmation of the appointment, it said.

"Filipinos may choose the date and time of their appointment, as available on the website.  Applicants should bring the printout of the confirmation, their original passport, a copy of the passport information page, an accomplished application form, and the passport fee of SR240 for renewal," it said.

The appointment system greatly reduces the waiting time at the Embassy, it added.

On the other hand, it said appointments through SMS are no longer available since they have been suspended since June 1.

Also, the embassy advised Filipinos it will no longer extend the machine-ready readable passport (green).

"As the process of obtaining an e-passport may take up to 30 days, Filipinos who need a passport should plan ahead and apply in advance to avoid inconveniences," it said. — TJD, GMA News
