Toronto police requesting extradition of Pinoy wanted for murder

The police in Toronto, Canada are requesting the extradition of a Filipino wanted for the alleged murder of Canadian national Manijeh Bostani−Khamsi last year.

According to Detective Mike Carbone, they are coordinating with the local Crown's office and the Canadian Department of Justice to have suspect Fernando De Castro, 46, extradited back to Canada.

In a press conference earlier this month, Carbone said an arrest warrant has been issued on De Castro, who is said to be hiding in southern Philippines with his wife after fleeing Canada three days after the murder.

The victim, 78-year-old Khamsi, was found in her apartment at Wynford Drive by Toronto police on November 17 last year.

De Castro allegedly cleaned Khamsi's apartment a day before the victim's body was found.

De Castro reportedly arrived in Canada in 2007 on a visitor visa with his wife. They initially resided with relatives before renting apartments.

The couple served as home cleaners for various clients, including Khamsi, whose house they cleaned on a bi-weekly basis.

“it appears that robbery is the motive in this homicide.” Carbone said.

He noted that De Castro is also a health care provider servicing elderly clients and is well-known to Khamsi. - Andrei Medina, VVP, GMA News
