Pinoy gets 15-year jail term for Pinay's death in UAE

A United Arab Emirates court on Thursday sentenced a Filipino trader to 15 years in jail for stabbing a Filipina business partner and pushing her from a flat window in August 2012.

The Dubai Court of First Instance found the Filipino, 49, guilty of stabbing the Filipina, 50, pushing her out of his first-floor flat window, and stabbing her again to ensure she was dead, Gulf News reported on Friday.

Presiding judge Wajdi Al Menyawi said the accused will be deported after the completion of his jail term. The Filipino insisted he was innocent.

“I am not guilty. I did not kill the woman...she jumped from my window. I did not push her,” he told the court earlier, the Gulf News report said.

Thursday’s ruling remains subject to appeal within 15 days.

Prosecution records showed the victim went to the Filipino's flat to meet a Korean businessman.

But the two had an argument, where the Filipino fatally stabbed her, then pushed her out an open window.

He then rushed down and stabbed her in the neck to make sure she was dead.

Court records also showed the victim's body was found in the trunk of her car, which was abandoned in Sharjah Industrial Area 11 on August 31.

This was six days after her husband reported her missing on August 26, 2012.

During the trial, the Filipino's court-appointed lawyer asked the court to dismiss the murder charges because the Filipino did not intend to kill the victim.

The lawyer also insisted the victim jumped from the window of her own accord.

An Emirati police captain testified the Filipino and the victim had financial disputes.

He claimed the defendant had planned to kill the victim two weeks before the crime.
