Duterte considering total ban on OFW deployment to Kuwait

President Duterte on Thursday said he was mulling imposing a total ban on the deployment of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) to Kuwait due to the rising number of deaths of Filipino workers in the oil-rich kingdom.
“We have lost about four Filipino women in the last few months. It’s always in Kuwait,” the President said in his speech during the launch of the Overseas Filipino Bank in Manila.
Mr. Duterte said he agreed with Foreign Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano that Kuwait’s rulers should do something about the alleged abuses suffered by Filipino workers.
“My advice is we talk to them, state the truth and just tell them that it’s not acceptable anymore. Either we impose a total ban or we can have the…,” he said.
“I do not want a quarrel with Kuwait. I respect their leaders, but they have to do something about this.”—PHILIP C. TUBEZA
