Malaysian police hunt 5 escaped Pinoy detainees

Malaysian police are on the hunt for five Filipinos who escaped a temporary detention center for illegal immigrants in Menggatal on New Year's Day, The Star Online reported.
The five were identified by Kota Kinabalu City police chief Asst Comm M. Chandra as Azmi Alim, 29, Mus Mansul, 62, Totong Alipudin, 35, Amir Sulaiman, 23, and Alji Sadain, 23.
Citing Sin Chew Daily, online news site MENAFN said the five started a brawl with two other foreign inmates on Monday afternoon to break through security and climb over a fence to flee the facility.
On the other hand, Bernama reported that Sarikin Isnain, 52, and Muhammad Langkasi, 19, by the detention center's security guards before they could flee with the Filipinos.
One of the men alleged that one of the escapees, described as having a centipede tattoo, perpetrated the melee that allowed their escape attempt and promised that a van would pick them up afterwards.
Chandra said the escapees may face up to two years in jail or a fine or both for resisting and obstructing lawful detention and escaping custody under Section 224 of the Penal Code.
The men were originally held for not having any identification document. — Rie Takumi/RSJ, GMA News
