MANILA, Philippines—Former Presidential aide and now Senator-elect Christopher “Bong” Go reiterated his push for the creation of a department solely for the concerns of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) as he condemned the reported rape of a Filipina in Kuwait.
“Hinding hindi natin palalampasin ang panggagahasa sa isa nating kababayan na pumunta ng Kuwait upang magtrabaho at mabigyan ng magandang kinabukasan ang kanyang pamilya,” Go said in a statement Thursday.
The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) earlier reported that a Kuwaiti police officer raped a Filipina household worker .
A department for OFW was among Go’s campaign promises, who ranked 3rd in the recently concluded midterm elections.
The proposed department, according to Go, will serve as a one-stop-shop that will provide legal assistance to OFWs in distress; arrange a full migration cycle approach in promoting migrants’ rights from pre-employment to onsite and reintegration services; and launch a shared database system to help track the status of OFWs to fast-track the delivery of assistance.  (EditorMike U.
