OWWA, PNA ink MOU to promote health, wellness of Pinoy nurses abroad

The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) and the Philippine Nurses Association on (PNA) Wednesday inked an agreement that would promote the health and wellness of Filipino nurses working abroad and their families.
Signed during the celebration of Migrant Workers Day, the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) will serve as platform of partnership between the nursing professionals and OWWA to support health and medical interventions for Filipino nurses abroad and their kin.
“Ito ay tulong sa information campaign... lahat ng impormasyon na kailangan ng OFW-nurses natin sa kahandaan bilang OFW. And just as important, kapag kailangan ng OFW nurses ‘yung ayuda, ‘yung proteksyon na puwede natin ibigay sa mga OFW nurses natin,” OWWA administrator Hans Leo Cacdac told reporters.
According to Erlinda Palaganas, PNA national president, the pact will hasten response to the health concerns of Filipino nurses.
“This is putting into things how do we respond to the health concerns of migrant workers, health concerns of nurses overseas,” Palaganas said.
“On the side of PNA, we need to alert OWWA on the concerns being brought to us by our nurses,” she added.
Palaganas said mental health concerns, such as depression, would also be addressed through the agreement as psychosocial evalution and counseling will be done as the need arises.
She added that the deal would provide reintegration services to returning OFW-nurses.
Under the MOU, OWWA will provide a 24/7 helpline that will cater to the needs and concerns of OFW nurses. —KBK, GMA News
