37 Pinoy fishermen being detained in Borneo
At least 37 Filipino fishermen who were reported arrested in Malaysia last June 20 are reportedly being held in East Sarawak in Borneo Island in Malaysia.
Radio dzRH reported Wednesday morning that this was the gist of information that trickled to the families of the fishermen in Mindoro Occidental province.
The initial information also indicated that the 37 were aboard the fishing boat "FB King Rani" under one captain Edwin Resconto, one of those presently detained.
A partial list of the fishermen who were believed detained in Malaysia included Hermie Tulaylay, 26; Remigio Tulaylay, 15; Gerald King Tulaylay, 21; Romnick Baco, 19; Freddie Pahinay, 36; Fulgino Enero; and Egen Bantillo.
Relatives of the "arrested" fishermen also said they have received information that a Malaysian patrol boat picked up the 37 after they "strayed" into Malaysian waters.
They said the fishermen had no experienced navigator aboard their vessel when they left to fish last May 20.
Ramon Lopez, the owner of the fishing vessel, reportedly went to Manila to seek help from authorities.
Earlier reports had indicated that the fishermen are residents of Caminawit village in San Jose town in Mindoro Occidental.
