DFA advisory for Filipinos in Pakistan: Avoid political rallies, stay indoors

Stay indoors and avoid political gatherings.

That was the advisory issued Friday by the Department of Foreign Affairs to all Filipinos in Pakistan, which is in turmoil following the assassination of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto Thursday.

Esteban Conejos Jr, Foreign Affairs Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Affairs, said Filipinos in Pakistan should be wary because the situation in there might become explosive.

He said no Filipino was injured in the Pakistani violence. He added that the DFA has ruled out early evacuation or repatriation of Filipinos in the troubled nation.

Conejos said that the Philippine embassy in Pakistan has already sent a travel warning to Filipinos in Karachi and Lahore.

“I don’t want to speculate, but I hope that the Pakistan government will be able to set thing over," Conejos said.

According to DFA, some 3,000 Filipinos are living and working in Pakistan.

“The embassy is in touch with all Filipino community leaders and monitoring the situation," Conejos said. - GMANews.TV
