Pinay entertainers detained in Malaysia
At least 30 Filipino entertainers, including two pregnant women, are detained in a police station in Malaysia.
Maricel Lacsamana Martin, 21, a resident of Caloocan City and one of the detained Filipina entertainers in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia, said in a text message sent to a relative that they were arrested last Dec. 16, 2007.
The Filipinas are detained at the Kepayan Balay police station.
Martin said that since they were arrested in the apartment where she and other Filipinas were staying, not a single representative from the Philippine embassy visited them.
“Hindi daw kami makakalabas hanggat walang umaamin sa amin. Hindi naman namin alam kung ano ang kasalanan namin," Martin said in a text message.
According to the relative of Martin, they were recruited as entertainers and entered Malaysia using tourist visas. No placement fees were collected.
Majority of the entertainers recruited came from provinces and some areas in Metro Manila. Their ages range from 19 to 25 years old.
Martin said their recruiter was also arrested and detained at the Kepayan Balay police station.
The entertainers are appealing to the government to help them.
Their cases are being heard in a court in Kota Kinabalu and the next hearing would be in March where the court would decide whether to deport them or not.
“Ang sabi ang next hearing namin ay sa March na daw po pero hindi na kami makatiis dito dapat makalabas na daw kami kung me pambayad na 1,000 Malaysian Ringit," added Martin.
The relative of Martin said that they had already sought the assistance of the Department of Foreign Affairs. - GMANews.TV
