DFA raises Alert Level 1 in Egypt

MANILA – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has raised alert level 1 in Egypt following the political crisis in the country.
"Upon the recommendation of our embassy in Cairo, the Secretary of Foreign Affairs has raised crisis Alert Level 1 over Egypt," said DFA Spokesperson, Assistant Secretary Raul Hernandez.
Hernandez explained that under the alert level 1, Filipinos are advised to remain indoors and avoid places where protests are being held. They are also advised to take all necessary precautions.
"As far as the Philippines is concerned, our priority is the safety of the nearly 6,000 Filipinos in Egypt,"he said.
The embassy has intensified its monitoring of the political and security situation in Egypt and has assigned duty officers to man the embassy and its communication lines 24/7.
Hernandez said the embassy is also in close coordination with the Filipino community and is sharing information with other foreign missions there.
"Our citizens should likewise be on standby for any advisories that the embassy might issue regarding developments on the peace and order sitaution in that country," he said.
