PHL Embassy: No info on Pinoy passenger aboard ill-fated Asiana Airlines flight

No Filipino has been reported aboard the ill-fated Asiana Airlines flight that crashed at San Francisco International Airport, the Philippine Embassy in Washington said Sunday.

In a post on its Twitter account, the embassy saidmost of the 291 passengers and 16 crew aboard the plane included Koreans, Chinese, and Americans.

"Asiana (said the flight's) 291 passengers and 16 crew included 77 Koreans, 141 Chinese, 61 Americans and a Japanese. No information on passengers from (the) Philippines," it said.

Earlier, the embassy said the Philippine consulate general sent two officers to the San Francisco airport to check if Filipinos were among the passengers.

For its part, Asiana Airlines posted on its Twitter and Google+ accounts its initial findings on the ill-fated flight OZ214.

It said OZ214 departed Incheon International Airport on July 6, 2013 at 4:35 p.m. (Korea time) bound for San Francisco.

The accident occurred when OZ214 was making a landing on San Francisco International Airport’s runway 28.

"There were a total of 291 passengers (19 business class, 272 travel class) and 16 cabin crew aboard. The majority of the passengers were comprised of 77 Korean citizens, 141 Chinese citizens, 61 US citizens, 1 Japanese citizen, etc. for a total of 291 people," it said.

It added it is still investigating the specific cause of the incident as well as any injuries as a result of the accident.

"Asiana Airlines will continue to cooperate fully with the investigation of all associated government agencies and to facilitate this cooperation has established an emergency response center at its headquarters," it said. — LBG, GMA News
