MANILA – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) announced on Thursday that it has lowered the crisis alert level in Egypt from 4 to 3 due to the continued improvement in the political and security situation in the said country.
The DFA explained that Alert Level 4 calls for a mandatory repatriation/evacuation of Filipinos in Egypt while the Alert Level 3 is for voluntary repatriation.
"The deployment of new workers, as well as the return to Egypt of vacationing workers, spouses of Egyptian nationals, Islamic University students and their dependents, continues to be suspended," the DFA said.
"As of November 12, a total of 163 Filipinos in Egypt have been repatriated," the DFA said.
DFA Secretary Albert del Rosario has instructed the Philippine Embassy in Cairo to continue to extend assistance to some 6,000 Filipinos in Egypt.
