US assures thorough probe on Pinoy welder's death
The United States has assured the Philippines of a thorough investigation into the death of a Filipino welder who died after accidentally falling off an oil platform in the Gulf of Mexico.
In posts on its Twitter account, the Philippine embassy in Washington said the assurance came from the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement.
"Director Brian Salerno tells (Philippine) Ambassador Jose Cuisia Jr. the BSEE will conduct (a) thorough and expeditious probe of (the) incident that led to (the) death of Peter Voces," the embassy said before dawn Tuesday.
Earlier, Cuisia asked the US Interior Department's Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement tolook into the death of Voces.
Cuisia last week assured Voces' widow the embassy is working to repatriate Voces' remains soonest.
"We are praying for you and your loved ones," the embassy quoted Cuisia as telling Mrs. Voces in a phone conversation, in a post on its Twitter account early Saturday, Manila time.
The embassy said Cuisia also assured Mrs. Voces the Philippine Consulate General in Chicago "willensure speedy repatriation of her late husband's remains." —KG, GMA News
