PHL embassy in Washington DC to accredit notaries public
The Philippine embassy in Washington D.C. is accrediting notaries public in its consular jurisdiction, to make it easier to authenticate documents of Filipinos there.
In a post on its website, the embassy said accrediting notaries public can remove one step in the process of authenticating documents.
“Such accreditation would benefit those who need to present notarized documents for use in the Philippines, as they would not have to go through subsequent authentication by respective State Secretaries prior to the Embassy’s legalization of the document. It saves them time and resources,” Ambassador Jose Cuisia Jr. said.
Under the embassy in Washington's consular jurisdiction are Alabama, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.
"For the authentication of documents, the Embassy requires notarized documents to be authenticated by Secretaries of State prior to authentication by a Philippine consular official," the embassy said.
Accreditations will be valid until the end of the calendar year and will be subject to the validity of the commissions of the notaries public.
For any inquiry, the Embassy’s Consular Section may be contacted through telephone number (202) 467-9382 or email address consular@philippinesusa.org. — Joel Locsin/ELR, GMA News
