OFW starved, beaten by sponsor's wife recovering in Riyadh hospital
A Filipina domestic worker allegedly starved and beaten by her sponsor's wife is currently recovering at the King Khaled Hospital in Riyadh after passing out, Arab News reported on Saturday.
Marissa Y. Magsucang was confined after she passed out while working at a wedding reception for her employer's family. Her passing out has been attributed to hunger and to sustained beatings from her sponsor's wife.
The 32-year-old said the woman would hit her on the head with steel utensils whenever her sponsor was out of the house. She would then be given rotten food or left to starve.
She was also made to work for other families, which violated the labor agreement between the Philippines and Saudi Arabia.
Magsucang added that she received a monthly salary of SR1,200 for two months despite being deployed by Raysa International Smart Employment Services on Sept. 24, 2014 for a monthly salary of SR1,500.
