  • 14,900 victims of Typhoons Yolanda and Ruby to be given PhilHealth coverage
    • Padilla and Johnson exchange copies of the signed agreement as Evelyn C. Bangalan, Senior Manager of PhilHealth’s International and Local Engagement Department and Jonathan Price, ILO Chief Technical Advisor for Emergency Employment and Livelihood Recovery for Typhoon Haiyan witness.
AT least 14,900 victims of typhoons Yolanda and Ruby in five (5) regions will be given social health insurance coverage soon.
Through a grant agreement between the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) and the International Labour Organization (ILO), the typhoon victims will be provided with a three-month PhilHealth coverage under the ILO’s Sustainable Livelihood Recovery Program. Total worth of coverage is Php9,208,200.00.
The chosen beneficiaries will come from Coron, Palawan in Region 4B, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Masbate and Albay in Region 5, Negros Occidental in Region 6, North Cebu and Bohol in Region 7 and Ormoc, Samar, and Tacloban in Region 8.
“I would like to acknowledge the ILO as one of the organizations that immediately responded to the calamity brought about by Typhoon Yolanda and facilitated the health insurance coverage of emergency workers and their families that were severely affected by the typhoon,” said Alexander A. Padilla, PhilHealth President and CEO.
The enrolled beneficiaries shall be enlisted under the Sponsored Program and will be entitled to PhilHealth’s full range of benefits including inpatient benefits, special benefit packages, primary care, and the Z benefits, and to the “No Balance Billing” policy for confinements in government hospitals.
ILO Country Director Lawrence Jeff Johnson said that “guaranteeing social protection, which includes PhilHealth coverage, prevents people from falling into poverty especially in times of illness and emergency.”
The PhilHealth-ILO partnership started last year with 5,162 typhoon victims being provided with PhilHealth coverage under the Cash for Work Program. The initial ILO grant amounted to Php3, 097, 320.74. (Faudia H. Subillaga)

Kuwait slams silence on Zionist crimes ---KUNA

Envoy hails countries and companies divesting from the Zionist entity GENEVA: The Permanent Representative of Kuwait to the United Nations and International Organization in Geneva Ambassador Nasser Al-Hain condemned Wednesday the international silence on the crimes committed by a “rogue state in defiance of international law” against the Palestinian people, warning that this silence amounts to “complicity” if immediate and effective steps are not taken to stop these violations. This came in a speech delivered by Hain at the 57th Human Rights Council under Item 7 of the agenda dedicated to discussing the human rights situation in Palestine and other occupied Arab territories. Gazan buried as only known victim of Iran’s strikes on Zionist entity --- Agencies

JERICHO, West Bank: A 38-year-old Gazan, the only known fatality in Iran’s missile attack against the Zionist entity, was buried on Wednesday. Sameh Khadr Hassan Al-Asali had been staying in a Palestinian security forces compound in the occupied West Bank when he was killed by falling missile debris during Tuesday’s attack, which the entity said was largely thwarted by its air defense systems. Security forces personnel carried the body draped in the red, green, white and black Palestinian flag. The crowd of about 200 mourners was made up of fellow Gazans staying in Jericho and local people. A large section of the rocket lay on the ground where it fell outside the compound. Around 700 workers from Gaza have been staying in Jericho, in the Jordan Valley, since the start of the war in Gaza almost a year ago. Unlike citizens of the Zionist entity, who went into bomb shelters after warning sirens sounded across the country, many Palestinians in the West Bank went out to watch the missiles ...
