Body of OFW who died in Kuwait arrives home; agency denies negligence

The body of an OFW who died of an illness in Kuwait last month arrived in the Philippines on Thursday morning, according to the recruitment agency that deployed her.
In a statement, the agency, iRekrut Manpower, denied that it has abandoned nor neglected Jeanette Opido as mentioned in several social media posts.
"All throughout Opido's confinement (1st, 2nd and 3rd) our FRA (foreign recruitment agency counterpart) was with her as evidenced by the pictures attached in our several reports," said iRekrut managing director Roland Collado.
The 12 reports, he said, were submitted to the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA).
Opido died on February 23 due to "acute failure of blood circulation and stop of heart muscles and respiration, heavy weakness in heart muscles, lung infection, failure of respiration functions," the agency said, citing the Kuwait Ministry of Health.
Collado also denied that the agency had a hand in Opido's alleged escape from the hospital in September last year, instead pinning the blame on one Glaiza Gamboa who he said is a member of a non-government organization.
"We will request our FRA to coordinate with the local Kuwait authorities to investigate the alleged Filipino companions of Opido when she escaped from the hospital," he said.
"The NGO should likewise explain why they kept in their custody a medically-ill worker instead of bringing her immediately to the hospital or at least, at the Philippine Embassy," Collado added.
iRekrut's FRA in Kuwait is Teflah Mohsen Duhaiman Al Dhafeeri Manpower Office.
Collado said Opido, who ran away from her employer in April 2016, had refused to seek shelter at the Philippine Embassy and instead worked illegally as a part-time cleaner.
"Even after her operation (1st confinement) she refused to be repatriated and instead insisted on working illegally," iRekrut said. —KBK, GMA News
