Welders, laborers, plumbers needed in Japan, New Zealand, US

Filipino workers affected by the deployment ban in Kuwait may apply for thousands of jobs available in other countries, including Japan, Australia and the United States, GMA News' JP Soriano reported on Balitanghali on Monday.
According to the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), welders are currently needed in Japan (5,125), the United States (3,632), Australia (1,487), Singapore (1,300) and New Zealand (900).
Meanwhile, laborers are needed in Taiwan, Brunei, New Zealand and Czech Republic; plumbers in Japan and New Zealand; drivers in Brunei and New Zealand; and cooks in Australia, Brunei and Macau.
US, Singapore, Ireland. and Germany are also in need of skilled nurses to fill vacancies.
POEA Deputy Administrator Joecelyn Sanchez said Filipinos who previously worked in Kuwait have a high chance of being hired for the positions because of their work experience.
"Skilled workers from Kuwait ay may experience from that country kaya kung maga-pply sila sa mga alternative markets natin for sure matatanggap naman sila because of the experience," Sanchez said.
Foreign Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano said the deploment ban in Kuwait will only be lifted once the parameters for the protection of OFWs have been met.
"We're pushing for much more. And then nung umpisa, the Kuwaiti government was showing that those are in the agreement so we're asking for practical or pragmatic applications," Cayetano said.
POEA reminded prospective OFWs to check the validity of their recruitment agencies and job orders through their website. —Rie Takumi/KBK, GMA News
