OWWA exec to Facebook users: Stop sharing posts of OFWs with resolved cases

An official of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OFWs) has appealed to Filipino Facebook users to stop sharing posts about OFWs whose problems have already been resolved.
According to OWWA Deputy Administrator Arnel Ignacio, the sharing of pictures and videos of OFWs with resolved cases only causes confusion among Filipino officers in foreign posts.
He said there have been instances where a particular case was brought to their attention only to find out later that the issue has been addressed already and that the concerned OFW is already in the Philippines.
"Tulad nitong isang kaso na sini-share ang video na umabot na ng 123,000 shares already pero ang tao ay nasa Pilipinas na. Dapat na tigilan ang mga ganitong gawain," he said.
Ignacio is currently in Saudi Arabia along with other OWWA and Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) officers to check on the welfare of Filipino workers there.
While there, the group also met with various Filipino organizations and pro-migrant advocates who assist distressed OFWs.
Many OFWs are using Facebook to report their situation and seek assistance from authorities, as such posts have the tendency to go viral.
Ignacio urged Facebook users to check on the progress of a case before sharing posts about it.
"Magtulungan po tayo, kung alam natin na tapos na at naresolba na ang kaso, huwag na i-share," he said. —Ronaldo Concha/KBK, GMA News
