Missing OFW in Jeddah a runaway, says Saudi agency

JEDDAH, Saudi Arabia — The recruitment agency that deployed Nilda Bongar, the missing OFW here, has insisted that she ran away in September 2016, and that all efforts to locate her have been so far fruitless.
"She ran away long time ago. We talked to some guy who chose her to come here, but he said he don't know, then when we called him again he switched off his phone," said Rami, a Sudanese representative of Said Ali Hamdan Al Ghamdi Recruitment Office.
"So we went to the consulate in Jeddah and in Riyadh to report and check [for] her, and then her employer filed a hurrob (run-away) in the immigration," he added.
Rami was summoned by the Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah days after GMA News reported the case of Bongar.
Bongar, a widow who has four children in Pangasinan, has been missing for a year and five months, according to her relatives in the Philippines.
During the meeting, Rami showed Welfare Officer Yolanda Penaranda documents showing their constant communication not only with the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration but also with Bongar's family.
Penaranda, for her part, said they are regularly monitoring the case of Bongar.
"Minomonitor po natin ito sa kaso ng whereabout po ni Nilda," she said. Nakikipag-ugnayan po kami sa Saudi authorities para hanapin ang nawawalang si Nilda."
Penaranda promised that they would immediately inform Bongar's family of any development in the case. —Ronaldo Concha/KBK, GMA News
