Dozens of undocumented migrants detained in Mexico

TOLUCA, Mexico - Mexican authorities have detained 43 undocumented migrants, including 30 from India, officials said Friday.

The individuals were discovered hiding late Thursday in a house in the town of Ecatepec, prosecutors said in a statement.

Two of those detained were from El Salvador. Eleven were from Honduras, including five women.

Six Mexicans were also taken into custody officials said, without specifying the charges against them.

More than 140,000 people cross into Mexico illegally every year in an attempt to reach the United States.

On their way to the US border, many become victims of extortion, and are kidnapped or even murdered by Mexican organized crime groups.

Last Thursday, two Hondurans aged 19 and 24 were shot dead while traveling as stowaways on a freight train in the town of Palenque, officials said. - Agence France-Presse
