PHL Embassy checking if Pinoys among wounded in California shooting

Philippine officials in the United States are checking if Filipinos were among the casualties of a shooting incident in Santa Monica in California.

In posts on its Twitter account early on Saturday (Philippine time), the Philippine Embassy in Washington said, "Ambassador (to Washington) Jose Cuisia Jr. says the Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles is checking if Filipinos were among the wounded in the shooting incident."

The embassy added that the Consulate General in Los Angeles are "monitoring the shooting incident at Sta. Monica College" that left at least six wounded.

A Reuters report said a gunman killed at least six people in Santa Monica, California, west of Los Angeles on Friday (US time) before he was shot to death himself by police at the library of a community college, Police Chief Jacqueline Seabrooks said.

Seabrooks said a second individual she described as a "person of interest" had been taken into custody in connection with the violence, which unfolded a few miles from where President Barack Obama was attending a political fundraiser. - with a report from Reuters, VVP, GMA News
