MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) will discuss with its Singaporean counterpart the collection of placement fees from Filipino household service workers (HSW).
"Kakausapin namin ang aming counterpart sa Singaporean government. Alam namin na may patakaran sila sa placement fees so kakakusapin din namin sila, to get their views so makapag-coordinate," POEA chief Hans Cacdac told dzMM.
This as the Association of Licensed Recruitment Agencies for Singapore said its members will stop sending Filipino HSWs to Singapore starting today. ALRAS president Lucita Sermonia said they declared a moratorium as a way to prevent their counterparts in Singapore from collecting placement fees from HSWs.
The POEA does not allow Philippine recruiters to collect placement fees from HSWs.
Cacdac said the ALRAS members may have wanted to avoid having their licenses cancelled by the POEA.
"Ang balita nila sa amin, umaabot ng 6 hanggang 8 buwan ang salary deduction ng mga domestic workers doon. Yan naman ay hindi natin pinapayagan sa POEA," he said.
Cacdac urged Philippine recruiters to still try to negotiate with their Singaporean counterparts.
"Dapat i-negotiate sa kanilang foreign counterpart para dun sila kumuha ng kita," he said.
