SSS holds “Medical Missions” nationwide for members, pensioners


As part of its 56th anniversary celebration, the Social Security System (SSS) will provide free health services to its members and pensioners during the “SSS Medical Mission” to be simultaneously held at 11 locations all over the country from 8 am to 12 noon on September 4, Wednesday.
SSS Officer-in-Charge of Medical Services Division Dr. Brenda P. Viola said the SSS Diliman Branch beside the SSS Main Office in Quezon City will offer basic health services such as medical consultations and treatments, cholesterol reading, blood sugar testing, electrocardiogram or “ECG,” fat index analysis, bone scanning, anemia screening and eye examinations. Five hundred reading glasses will also be distributed on a first-come, first served basis to Medical Mission attendees at SSS Diliman.
"SSS Medical Missions in other parts of the country will offer several of the services offered by SSS Diliman such as free medical consultations and blood sugar testing," Viola said. "Moreover, all 11 of our venues will give out free medicines such as antibiotics and antihypertensive medications, which are especially helpful to many of our pensioners."
Aside from the SSS Diliman Branch, the Medical Mission will also be held at the SSS Pasig Branch along Shaw Boulevard for SSS members and pensioners in Metro Manila. For those in Luzon, the event will be held at the SSS Tarlac, Calamba and Naga branches and at the municipality of San Gabriel in La Union province. Members and pensioners in Visayas and Mindanao can visit the SSS Medical Missions to be held at the SSS Cebu, Bacolod, Zamboanga, Cagayan de Oro and Davao branches.
"SSS branches in Diliman, Cebu, Cagayan de Oro and Davao will also offer free dental services such as dental check ups and tooth extractions as part of the SSS Medical Mission," Viola said.
The SSS marked its 56th year on September 1, 2013 with the theme "SSS: Nagpupugay sa Miyembro, Bilib Kami Sa'Yo!" Other anniversary activities include the Launch of the SSS Anniversary Exhibit (August 30); Opening of the SSS Livelihood Bazaar and Exhibit (September 2); SSS Stakeholders' Day (September 1 and 7); SSS Main Anniversary Program featuring the “Balikat ng Bayan” Awards and “Miyembro, Bilib Kami Sa 'Yo” Special Awards (September 9); and the SSS Employees' Program and Awards (September 13).
