Pinay killed in car crash in California

MANILA, Philippines - A 22-year old Filipina was killed in a hit-and-run accident in Bakersfield, California last Friday (January 3).
News website 23ABC News identified the Filipina victim as Princess Almonidovar, who worked as a respiratory therapist at San Joaquin Community Hospital.
The report, which quoted Bakersfield Police, indicated 24-year-old Alex Rubio was speeding when his vehicle collided with Almonidovar's vehicle in the intersection of Ming Ave. and New Stine Road at 3 a.m.
Almonidovar, who had right of way, was killed instantly.
Police said after the accident, Rubio ran from his vehicle, but was apprehended. He was later charged with driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol, felony hit and run, felony vehicular manslaughter, and resisting arrest.
A memorial fund for Almonidovar's family has been set up.
Almonidovar had been working at the San Joaquin Community Hospital for only 18 months.
"Although she worked at our hospital for just a short time, Princess was loved by her co-workers and a shining example for young people working toward a career in health care. She will be missed by everyone here at San Joaquin Community Hospital. During this difficult time, we extend our thoughts and prayers to Princess’ family and friends as they deal with the full force of this tragedy," the hospital said in a statement.
