Parents of abducted Pinoy waiter in Saudi seek govt help

The parents of the overseas Filipino worker (OFW) who was kidnapped in Saudi Arabia has sought assistance from Vice President Jejomar Binay to determine the whereabouts of their son.

Billy Joseph Enriquez has been missing for a week after unidentified armed men seized him from the place he was staying at in Al-Khobar, a report on GMA News TV's "News To Go" said on Tuesday.

Citing Enriquez's parents, the report said the suspects physically abused the OFW before abducting him.

A separate report on GMA News TV's "Balitanghali" said Enriquez, 22, works as a waiter in Al-Khobar and is about to return home in June after his two-year contract expires.

"Sana po tulungan niyo kami na mahanap yung anak namin at sana po sa lalong madaling panahon ay maiuwi siya dito sa Pilipinas para makasama namin," said the victim's father, Joseph, in the "Balitanghali" report.

The "News To Go" report said the parents were puzzled by the abduction since their son hadn't mentioned having any misunderstanding with someone during their prior conversations.

Binay's office has promised to coordinate with the Philippine Embassy in Riyadh regarding Enriquez's case, the report said. Binay is the presidential adviser on OFW concerns.

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) had likewise ordered the embassy to investigate the case. The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) is also coordinating with concerned agencies regarding the matter. —KBK, GMA News
