POEA warns vs. fake job offers in Canada hospital

The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration on Saturday warned prospective overseas Filipino workers against falling for emails claiming to offer work at a children's hospital in Canada.

POEA head Hans Leo Cacdac said these emails will ask prospective applicants to cough up P3,760 for a supposed seminar.

"Mag-ingat po sa email na kumakalat na nag-aalok daw ng trabaho sa Shriners Hospital for Children sa Montreal, Quebec, Canada," he said.

Citing information reaching him, he said the emails would appear to be from the Shriners Hospital for Children (kennethguidera@shrinershopsitalsforchildren.info).

The email would claim openings for caregivers, nurse aides, midwives, and therapists - graduate or undergraduate and with or without Professional Regulation Commission license.

"No experience required kuno, no examinations required kuno, no placement fee kuno (pero) may seminar na kailangang puntahan at bayaran ng P3,760," Cacdac said.

He also said the email would name a recruitment agency but in the end would arrange for direct hiring or cite a name hiring arrangement.

Cacdac said the email would also have the prospective applicant send resumes or bio-data to a specific email address.

It added the email would claim to have a "first pay, first reserve basis."

Cacdac reminded applicants to be wary of so-called job offers seeking money and urging them to hurry, as well as claiming there is no need for placement fee or PRC license.

"Hindi ho estilo o siste ng foreign employer, lalo na sa Canada, na sumulat ng email ... Huwag na huwag hong patulan ito," he added. — Joel Locsin/LBG, GMA News
