Suicide cases among HK OFWs in January equal 2015 record

The number of deaths from suicide among Filipinos in Hong Kong in January 2016 has already equaled the cases reported throughout 2015.
Vice Consul Alex Vallespin disclosed this at a meeting with the Filipino community in Hong Kong last Sunday, January 28.
Also, he said three of the cases involved unpaid debts, while the fourth case was about a troubled relationship.
According to Vallespin, the Philippine Consulate General is lining up health forums for the Filipino community there, and one of the topics is about depression and suicide. But the overseas office is yet to announce the schedules for the forums.
Aside from the forums, the Philippine foreign office will also be conducting financial literacy training and seminars that will be held once every three months.
In 2015, four Filipinos were reported to have committed suicide, and  that three cases were recorded in 2014, Vallespin said.
As of end-September 2015, nearly 200,000 Filipinos were living and working in Hong Kong, and over 180,000 of them are household service workers. — LBG, GMA News
