Taiwan health care system will keep OFWs safe from COVID-19 –MECO

The Manila Economic Cultural Office (MECO) said on Saturday that overseas Filipino workers in Taiwan were safe amid the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak as Taiwan had one of the best health care systems in the world.
MECO Chairman Lito Banayo told news program Balitanghali Weekend that of the over 160,000 Filipinos in Taiwan, more than 150,000 were OFWs.
"Taiwan has one of the best, if not the best, health systems in the whole world. Ito ay internationally recognized, napakagagaling ng mga doctor dito, napakaganda ng kanilang health system," said Banayo.
Furthermore, Taiwanese nationals and OFWs were given the same health benefits.
"Libre gamot, libre konsultasyon, libre laboratory, libre x-ray, libre lahat yan doon sa binabayaran mo'ng maliit na insurance fee," he added.
The chairman also pointed out that there were only 18 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Taiwan, compared to the 67 confirmed cases in Singapore
"Doon sa 18 na, ano, for COVID, ang tatlo ay gumaling na, wala na sa hospital. Fifteen na lang, nagre-recover na 'yung 15, so nabantayan nila ng mabuti," Banayo said. "I can assure our people na napaka-safe dito sa Taiwan."
The Department of Health (DOH) on Monday announced that the Philippines' travel restrictions also covered Taiwan
The Philippines on Friday lifted the ban after Taiwan deliberated on retaliatory measures against the country.
