OFW with ailing mom urges different COVID-19 quarantine protocols for emergencies

Published September 5, 2021 7:52pm An overseas Filipino worker urged the government to have different quarantine protocols in case of emergencies and humanitarian cases. According to a report on 24 Oras Sunday, Randy Casimiro made the request as he wanted to see his ailing mom. "Hindi na gumagana 'yong chemo... at lumalaki na 'yong tiyan niya, marami ng bukol, hindi na siya nakakakain ng maayos. Tina-try kong kausapin siya araw-araw," he said. (The chemo is no longer working, and her belly has swollen, she has all these lumps, and she can no longer eat properly. I try to talk to her every day.) "'Pag nagkakausap kami, lagi niya sinasabi na natatakot siya baka hindi na kami magkita. That's the most painful part because I don't know how I would respond to that," he added. (Every time we talk, she always says that she fears we won't see each other again.) Randy was supposed to go home in May but his flight was canceled more than five times due to travel restrictions amid the pandemic. He already pleaded his case with the Inter-Agency Task Force, but he was told that the quarantine was mandatory to prevent the further spread of COVID-19. Health Secretary Francisco Duque III, meanwhile, promised to help Casimiro with his case. — Ma. Angelica Garcia/DVM, GMA News
