Fishermen accuse agency of giving them 'expired' food, seek DMW's help ---- By GMA Integrated News

Some 100 fishermen have sought government help after they accused their manning agency of abuse. The fishermen, who were supposed to be deployed onboard vessels to the Indian Ocean, went to the Department of Migrant Workers' (DMW) office on Wednesday morning to voice their complaints. The DMW said the complaints included non-payment of wages, incorrect wage payments, poor working conditions, irregular work hours, and allegedly being fed “expired” food. Atty. Geraldine Mendez, chief of the DMW's Migrant Workers Protection Bureau (DMW-MWPB), instructed and guided the fishermen in filing their statements. "Lawyers and paralegals from the DMW-MWPB were on hand to assist the fishermen," the DMW said. The fishermen's statements will later form the basis for filing complaints and claims from the manning agency. —KBK, GMA Integrated News
