Gov’t to launch mobile app for OFWs--- By GMA Integrated News
The government will soon launch a mobile application to provide assistance to overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), including immediate aid to those who are in distress.
This was after the OFW Partylist, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), and the Overseas Workers and Welfare Administration (OWWA) signed on Tuesday a memorandum of understanding on the upcoming OFW App.
Among those who attended the signing were OFW Partylist Representative Marissa Magsinon, OWWA Administrator Arnell Ignacio, Department of Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac, and DICT Secretary Ivan John Uy.
“Among other features, the app provides access to welfare assistance, various benefits, and a crucial emergency button that connects directly to OWWA's operation center, providing immediate support to OFWs in distress,” the OFW Partylist said in a statement.
There was no specific date given on when the mobile app would be released.
In his second State of the Nation Address (SONA) last year, President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. pushed for the digitalization of government services.
