MANILA, Philippines – The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) has expanded the coverage of the automated polls in May to seven countries in Asia and the Middle East where there are big concentrations of registered voters.
Balitang Middle East reported that the COMELEC will start to implement automated voting in Hong Kong, Singapore, Abu Dhabi and Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, Jeddah and Riyadh in Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait.
A total of 36 Precinct Count Optical Scan (PCOS) machines will be distributed to these countries for the conduct of the mid-term elections.
Each of the seven countries has more than 20,000 registered overseas absentee voters.
Commissioner Lucenito Tagle, chairman of the Committee on Overseas Absentee Voting (OAV), said they will discuss the guidelines and would soon train personnel of diplomatic posts on the use of the PCOS machines. -- Balitang Middle East
