OFWs to get briefing from HK police on human trafficking


Overseas Filipino workers in Hong Kong will get a briefing from Hong Kong police on human trafficking and other issues affecting them at a forum scheduled Jan. 13.

The forum organized by the Philippine Consulate General will be held at the Consulate General premises at United Center at 95 Queensway, Admiralty.

"The Hong Kong Police Force remains one of the most critical branches of the Hong Kong government, having a direct impact on the lives of Filipinos living and working in the territory," theConsulate General said.

The scope and authority of HK police cover a wide range of cases: managing the flow of people during public activities or protests actions; investigating crimes such as common assault, theft and overstaying persons; intervening in problems occurring between and employers and employees; crimes in the high seas; drug trafficking and trafficking in persons," it added.

Also, it said the police are present during instances of death in the community, registration of societies or associations and other community activities.

It said the forum is scheduled from 4:30 to 6 p.m. on Jan. 13.

Moreover, it said the forum will seek to educate the general public about the Hong Kong Police Force’s functions and procedures, which include dealing with crimes, arrests and detention, legal procedures for suspects and witnesses, and police conduct. — LBG, GMA News
