PHL embassy in Washington closed Feb. 18


The Philippine Embassy in Washington will be closed on Feb. 18 in observance of former US President George Washington's birth anniversary.
 
In an advisory, the embassy said Feb. 18, a Monday, is considered a federal holiday in the United States.
 
"The Embassy will be closed on Monday, February 18 in observance of Washington’s Birthday, a US federal holiday," it said.
 
But it said those with emergency cases requiring assistance from the embassy may contact telephone numbers 202-368-2767 or202-467-9300.
 
Washington's Birthday, also known as President's Day, is held on the third Monday of February.
 
It honors all the presidents of the US, with Washington as the first president.
 
However, TimeAndDate.com said some states pay attention to Abraham Lincoln, whose birthday also falls on February. —KG, GMA News

STAR / Michael Varcas MANILA, Philippines — While Chinese vessels in the West Philippine Sea (WPS) have decreased in number, they have maintained a presence in three key land features where naval and coast guard ships have intensified operations in the past seven days, according to the Philippine Navy. MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) sees social media as the main reason for the rising number of Filipinos marrying or becoming partners of foreign nationals. In 2022, the CFO recorded 6,854 marriages or partnerships with foreign nationals, a 40.1 percent increase from the 4,891 “intermarriages” recorded in 2021. “First of all, what we see in the increase in the marriage rate of Filipinos or Filipinos with foreign partners is because of social media, (that) is number one; matchings; letters, introduction of their friends,” CFO chairperson Romulo Arugay said at the Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon public briefing yesterday.
