408 OFWs return from Libya

More than 400 overseas Filipino workers arrived home from strife-torn Libya Thursday night, many of them with tales of woe.

Shortly before midnight, 408 OFWs from Libya arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, radio dzBB's Roland Bola reported.

The OFWs, who were welcomed by Department of Foreign Affairs and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration personnel, are to undergo briefing and documentation.

A separate report on GMA News TV's "News TV Live" said 50 more arrived Thursday afternoon, taking the Libya-Tunisia route.

Many of them said they experienced hardships and narrated the terror they felt when houses were bombed.

Some of them did not even receive their wages yet, the report said.

The DFA declared Crisis Alert Level 4 in Libya last July 20. This meant a total deployment ban and mandatory repatriation.

Labor officials reassured the repatriated OFWs they can have their dinars converted into Philippine pesos.  Joel Locsin/ELR, GMA News
