Fil-Am teen injured in Virginia tornado dies – reports
A teenager whose Filipino-American parents were killed in a tornado in Cape Charles in Virginia last month has died from his injuries, US news sites reported over the weekend.
Lheandrew Balatbat died Saturday afternoon at the Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters in Norfolk, according to a fundraising page set up to help the family.
"(I)t is with heavy heart that we inform you the passing of Lheandrew Lloyd Balatbat, son of late Lord and Lolibeth Balatbat. At a loss for words.. Please keep the family in your prayers. RIP Little man," said a notice on a fundraising account set up by a person who claimed to be a co-worker of the boy's father Lord Balatbat.
A separate report on Delmarvanow.com, which covers news in Maryland, Virginia and Delaware, also quoted one Pam Barefoot as saying she "received word Saturday the teen had passed away."
The Delmarvanow.com article also cited the notice on the fundraising site.
Lheandrew was severely injured after a tornado hit a camping resort and caused a tree to fall on the tent where the family had been taking shelter onJuly 24.
His parents, Lord and Lolibeth Ortega, were killed. Two other children, girls aged 12 and 7, were brought to a hospital but have since been released.
The couple's niece, Jelyn Ortega-Fallarme, 21, was hospitalized.
