PHL Embassy in Washington closed Aug 21, 25
The Philippine Embassy in Washington D.C. announced Thursday it will be closed to the public on Aug. 21 and 25, both nonworking days in the Philippines.
In a holiday notice posted on its website, the embassy said Aug. 21 is Ninoy Aquino Day while Aug. 25 is National Heroes' Day.
"The Embassy will be closed on August 21 and 25 in observance of Ninoy Aquino Day and National Heroes' Day respectively," it said.
Aug. 21, Thursday, marks the martyrdom of former Sen. Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino Jr., incumbent President Benigno Aquino III's father.
The elder Aquino's assassination on Aug. 21, 1983 triggered protests that eventually ousted then President Ferdinand Marcos and catapulted Aquino's widow Corazon to the presidency.
Aug. 21 is considered a special nonworking day.
On the other hand, National Heroes' Day, which honors the country's heroes, is a regular holiday. —Joel Locsin /LBG, GMA News
