OFW throws a fit, refuses to board plane without PNoy on board
Exhibiting an abnormal behavior, a Filipino domestic helper in Jeddah refused to board her flight for Manila last month after learning that she would not be flying with her supposed nephews, nieces, and President Benigno Aquino III.
Assistant Labor Attache Olivia Macawili told GMA News on Thursday that "Rose" (not her real name) started behaving erratically when personnel from the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO-Jeddah) and Overseas Worker Welfare Administration (OWWA) escorted her to the airport.
Macawili said the OFW had worked for less than three months when her employer accompanied her to the consulate after she asked to go home. Her employer noted signs of strange behavior before she stopped working, causing them to agree to her request.
Earlier, Rose told GMA News she refused to go on her assigned flight, as the President and her nieces were waiting on another plane for her.
Welfare Officer Amilito Adel tried to assist her to a hospital, but the OFW refused and said she was being forced to abandon her appointment.
She insisted that President Aquino had even rented a plane to fetch her after her fellow OFWs called her "insane" during her stay at the Filipino Workers Resource Center (FWRC).
Macawili said Rose had been brought to a hospital for assaulting other workers in the FWRC, adding that the patient is still recovering, and that she will be returned home once her condition settles.
Macawili urged Filipino seeking work at Saudi Arabia to carefully assess their mental and physical health before traveling or looking for employment in the region.
She also asked recruitment agencies to test their recruits' capabilities and decisiveness to work in other countries before agreeing to send them abroad.
“Huwag nating gawing dahilan ang pag-a-abroad para lamang takasan ang mga problema lalo na don sa mga may maliliit pa na anak,” Macawili added. — Rie Takumi with Ronaldo Concha /LBG, GMA News
