Coast Guard rescues 3 Malaysia-bound trafficking victims
Three would-be victims of human trafficking bound for Malaysia were rescued in Zamboanga City last Saturday, the Philippine Coast Guard said Tuesday.
In a post on its website, the Coast Guard said its operatives intercepted the motor launch bearing the three victims at Taganak Anchorage Area in Zamboanga City.
Acting on a tip, members of the Coast Guard's Taganak substation checked the wooden motor launch "Fadzrimar-J" for three female passengers.
The Coast Guard operatives said the three female passengers were approached over their "suspicious gestures." It said the three failed to present identification and were invited for the substation for interview and profiling.
The three victims were aged 25, 28, and 29.
According to them, they planned to travel to Sandakan in Malaysia even without legal documents.—Joel Locsin/KBK, GMA News
