2014  MOFYA National Winners  Slated on 23 January
It is all systems go for the announcement of the grand national winners for the search for the 2014 Most Outstanding OFW Family Award (MOFYA), OWWA Administrator Rebecca J. Calzado said.  

Now on its 10th  year, OWWA announced that the selection for the 17 OWWA Regional Welfare Office  winners (one from the land based category and one from the sea-based category), started in September last year. The 34 OWWA Regional winners automatically qualify as finalists to the National awards to be held in the afternoon of  23 January 2015, at the Blue Leaf Filipinas, ParaƱaque City.  

Meanwhile at the national level, two (2)  winners, one from the land-based and sea-based categories, shall be chosen from among all the Regional winners. Two (2) special awards, the “Outstanding Achievement in Community Projects” and the “Outstanding Achievement in Entrepreneurship” titles shall be conferred among the deserving  finalists.  

According to Labor Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz who chairs the Board of Judges, the criteria for the selection of the regional and national MOFYA awardees include wholesomeness of the family, success in their profession,  success in business and financial management, and civic or community involvement or leadership. MOFYA exemplifies family solidarity among Filipinos, who, despite distance, continue to  show support to  one another. 

Secretary Baldoz added that ‘best practices’ among nominees/candidates shall also be given points such as unity and solidarity among family members,  and adherence to traditional Filipino values.

The panel of Judges of the National Screening & Selection Committee comes from the government and private sectors, non-government organizations (NGOs), and religious group. The Two (2) grand winners (land-based and sea-based) will each receive a trophy and a cash prize of Five Hundred Thousand Pesos (P500,000.00);   plus One  (1) refrigerator.

In addition, two special awards will be given plaque of recognition and a  cash prize of One Hundred Thousand Pesos (100,000.00) to the winner for the “Most Outstanding Achievement in Entrepreneurship”, plus one refrigerator, and One Hundred Thousand Pesos (P100,000.00) for the winner for the most “Outstanding Achievement in Community Projects”, plus one (1) refrigerator.   

Each of the 34 Regional winners will receive a cash prize of Forty Thousand Pesos (P40,000.00). All MOFYA finalists/nominees will also be given a MOFYA trophy, plus One hundred thousand pesos (P100,000.00)  insurance coverage for two family members,  per family.     

This year’s major sponsors are the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI), Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP), Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP), and  Banco de Oro (BDO). Meanwhile  Insular Life , and  Duty Free Philippines  are  the event’s minor sponsors.  

“We are truly proud of all our MOFYA awardees, both past, the new roster as well as the future winners, because they exemplify what every OFW aspires for—success both in their work stints abroad and a happy, fulfilled family life,” OWWA Chief Calzado said. Administrator Calzado added that she encourage other OWWA members to participate in the future search for MOFYA, to serve as their ‘legacy’ to their children and the generations after them.
