OFW dies mysteriously in Laos, kin in Cebu call for justice

A Filipino who worked as an electrician in Laos died last Dec. 31, and his relatives in Cebu are seeking justice for him.

Rowen Abellanosa died in an accident during a field trip with fellow overseas Filipino workers, GMA Cebu's Gregy Magdadaro reported Tuesday.

His relatives are not discounting the possibility of foul play, noting authorities there have yet to issue an autopsy report.

The National Bureau of Investigation Central Visayas is to autopsy his remains.

Rowen's relatives said his remains were embalmed when they were brought back to the Philippines last Jan. 4 - without seeking the family's permission.

Meanwhile, they questioned why his belongings such as a laptop computer were not brought back to the Philippines.

Also, they questioned why the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration has not received a report about what happened to Rowen. The OWWA has not commented on the matter. — Joel Locsin/VC, GMA News
